Dilemma,

I worked in the dilemma since the first I signed my assignment to the job. Work on media company is a big dilemma — more bigger each day while I tried to hanging for the past 4 years. I was used social media as the main platform to spread products. Social media for news are remain strong. The things you should remember is all that public user by platform, the younger people and those with lower levels of education also using same platform. Messaging apps like WhatsApp to Telegram have become especially popular too, it creating most concern when it comes to spreading misinformation or hoax news, though.

This being so much dilemma when you realized what is company exactly need for benefit against the law and ethic code based on journalistic terms we stand for. As a journalist, we automatically had it all. I used the “automatically” phrase because I’ve been felt as hard as I record the way I had to chose what actually article I should write for everyday’s task. The big dilemma I walked into is about how could we catch the main market within a greater code ethics of journalistic. It such an opposite terms which always happen every time among journalists. The content creator nowadays also thinking about SEO function for winning Google Search directory every single day, same as my job.

There is a specialty style to describe the quality of Indonesian’s reader around the states. Indonesian has their unusual interesting level of articles that shown up. Based on what I did, I worked on, netizen +62 has a tendency to read articles with unusual titles, if there’s any articles with bombastic and nonsensical headline to show, they would be choosing it rather than the less one which describe news on the basic fact. All the way they like is just something rare, strange, or even nonsense.

Many factors been impressed this behavior, if we want to look up deeply, we sees an affect from Indonesia’s history back then, we also living a thick culture, because ancestors been very influential. I also dividing this clue into three main pillars. It is close in meaning to something related to liquid.

People in Indonesian would be very like reading the news which play with 3 topics of liquid, require: Blood Liquid, Sperm Liquid, and Saliva Liquid.

Each of those pillars has their real definition itself. Blood means peoples are love reading news with any blood involved, someone killed, attacked, or injured, include if there’s any tragedy happened. Sperm means peoples will read news if we talk more about something to sexual vibes, include sexual harassment, raped issues, especially if it contains killed case too. The last one is Saliva that means all the matters that come out from the mouth, in rude way. A fray will always be an interesting issue bring to the midst, or something closely meaning with riot. They always loving it.

I want to show you an interesting result that been reported on Oxford feat Reuters summary media 2021 that I found. Everything becomes so interesting while taken from few correspondents whose been work thickly on it.

According to the report, it described overall trust in news from Indonesian people is low only reach 39%. CNN being the highest brand trust at 69% BUT positioning fourth at the revenue income level, which means not everyone want to read and visit the site comparing all of Indonesia population amount, where’s exactly the rest? That the real question had to ask about.

The other interestingly case is about the news brand with greatest reach of viewers (TVOne) is also one of the brands with a large minority (12%) of trust. They have a big reach level of viewers, but the brand trust score stating to fifth position away the others.

This is saying that Indonesia people honestly do not trust to it, but in opposite way some may attribute for those news because its more sensational style of reporting.

And this case is the same case according the online news. That’s why I called the most pathetic media’s dilemma.

How +62 netizen appreciate Journalists and Media

Working as journalist also making me know how Indonesian people appreciating the work of journalists. As we could see at the report, it’s only 19% of population willing to pay of all the product and information that they could have until today,

And for the rest of it? Just want to read all that information in free way, so where’s the actual reward for all those people who would bring you the suitable information? Nothing free in this entirely world.

This behavior finally built an awful system of business on media companies just to survive the market. Some of them, trying hardly to make all the news in free way, and so today, you could read all the news without any paying roll requested of all the way. Is it enjoy, right?

Because of the free way system, a lot of media companies are competing each other to get richest viewers based on every search engines were existed. The biggest one is Google. Google is such the main search engine with a lot of revenue to be on, and finally it could paying roll media companies at the end.

That’s the real stage of click bait news could be born in streaming media.

Media have suffered primarily through a loss of advertising revenue. As companies in the private sector cut their marketing budgets, local governments stepped up their spending on media, especially in the provinces. Most ministries allocated funds to promote their activities through the purchase of advertising, thus helping to keep media businesses afloat.

I think the point of that circle is about the lower level of literacy in Indonesia, this low underlies the development of media in Indonesia, furthermore the media never get any worthy appreciate, that may the job only filling with how to survive and move out from this lowest level reader’s literacy.

Then, who is the real savior from this?

As we know until the day, Indonesia being a rich country of cultures and languages. Indonesia has a big vary of living for entirely areas surrounded. Although a wide range of privately owned local publications operate across Indonesia’s provinces, the print sector is dominated by two media conglomerates, the Jawa Pos Group and the Kompas-Gramedia Group.

Television remains the most wider user medium across Indonesia’s vast population, much of that still not online. Major national commercial networks such as TV One and Metro TV amongst others compete with state owned Televisi Republik Indonesia (TVRI).

But now, there is a lot of media in Indonesia changing their sector to the online. And until today, the online news still presenting click bait news because bring more reach viewers than the flat one. This is still happening and never being untie until a bigger movement of literacy in Indonesia would goes on.

Then, who’s the one who could bring the change of this situation?

I may say it could starting with you. A simply start over the reading behavior! And you could save this country, also saving your future!
